This Privacy Policy explains how CleverCook (“the App”) processes personal data when you use the App.

2) Key points

  • We do not sell your data and do not use advertising tracking.
  • Most of your cookbook data stays on your device and (optionally) in your iCloud.
  • Some Apple services (App Store, iCloud, Sign in with Apple) process standard technical/account data to provide those services.
  • If you use AI features, the text you submit is sent to OpenAI to generate results.

3) Data we process

A) Content you create in the App (recipes, pantry, plans)

What: Recipes, ingredients, notes, meal plans, shopping lists, and similar content you enter.
Where stored: On your device. If you enable iCloud/CloudKit, this content may sync via your Apple iCloud account (private database).
Purpose: Provide core features (cookbook, meal planning, shopping lists, syncing).
Legal basis (GDPR): Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

B) Apple services (standard data)

Depending on what you use, Apple may process:

  • Sign in with Apple: Apple account identifier and (depending on your Apple settings) your name and/or email (you may choose “Hide My Email”).
  • App Store purchases/subscriptions: Purchase history and billing information (handled by Apple). We only receive entitlement/status needed to unlock features.
  • iCloud/CloudKit: Syncing data between your devices using your Apple ID.

Purpose: Provide login, syncing, purchases, and platform functionality.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

C) AI features (optional) — OpenAI

If you use AI recipe generation or similar AI tools:

What: The text you submit (e.g., ingredients, preferences, dietary restrictions) and the AI responses.
Recipient: OpenAI (processing requests to generate results).
Purpose: Generate AI results you request.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (requested feature) and/or Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR if we ask for consent for specific processing.

Please avoid entering sensitive personal data into free-text prompts.

D) Diagnostics (limited)

If enabled through Apple/iOS settings, Apple may provide crash reports/diagnostics (typically technical data such as device model, OS version, and crash logs).

Purpose: Improve stability and fix bugs.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest).

4) Tracking and advertising

  • We do not use advertising tracking (no cross‑app tracking for ads).
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • If we ever add analytics beyond Apple’s standard aggregated reporting, we will update this policy and request consent where required.

5) Sharing and recipients

Data may be processed by:

  • Apple (App Store, Sign in with Apple, iCloud/CloudKit, optional diagnostics)
  • OpenAI (only when you use AI features)

We share only what is necessary to provide the features you use.

6) International transfers

OpenAI may process data outside the EU/EEA (for example, in the United States). Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).

7) Data retention

  • On-device/iCloud content remains until you delete it in the App and/or remove it from iCloud.
  • Account identifiers (if used) are retained as long as needed to provide account features and comply with legal obligations.
  • Diagnostics (if any) are retained only as long as necessary for troubleshooting and improvements.

8) Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, rectification, deletion, restriction, portability, and to object to certain processing. If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority (Datenschutzaufsichtsbehörde).

9) Children

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

10) Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will be available on this page and will show a new “Last updated” date.
